Mackinder Forum Virtual Seminar #20: "China’s Mackinderism" presented by Gordon Chang

On November 22, 2020, 1:30-3:00 PM Eastern US Time, Gordon Chang presented "China's Mackinderism" to the Mackinder Forum Seminar.

ABSTRACT: Chinese policymakers are Mackinderites; and they are also believers in the Rimland Theory of Nicholas John Spykman, as evident from their all-out plan to build infrastructure in Central Asia. The Belt part of the Belt & Road Initiative shows great commitment to dominating trade routes to Europe through the Rimland. At the same time, the Chinese are devout Mahanians. Chinese leaders believe they must control Mackinder’s Heartland, Spykman's Rimland, and Mahan’s sea lanes.

So will they realize their grand ambitions and win control of the world?
